Recorder Karate is an absolutely fun way to learn a beginning instrument, read music, and be part of a musical group. Learning the recorder is an excellent place to start for students who are not quite ready physically to play a band instrument. The recorder may be a better fit for smaller hands. For parents, you can find out through this experience if your child will take the responsibility of caring for their instrument and commit to practicing before investing in a band instrument. Students who master Recorder Karate already have learned initial music reading skills, rhythms, breath control and articulation that help them make an easy transition when they step up to a band instrument.
Why the name Recorder Karate? This curriculum is designed to reward students with a colored "belt" for each new song that they master. Students will learn to read notes and rhythms on the treble staff.
Each recorder group will culminate with a performance opportunity of a few songs they have mastered!
Recorder Group is $25/month for a 12-week session plus a $20 registration fee that includes a student notebook and recorder. For ages 8 and up.
